The Raceboard for Every Skill Level
On most sailing days — whether club sessions or competitive starts — the wind stays below 15 knots. The RS V5 AST 380 is designed for those conditions: a raceboard that keeps light-wind sailing competitive, accessible, and technically sound without the cost of carbon construction.
For sailors new to the raceboard class, or for clubs needing a reliable fleet board that performs across the full tactical range, it delivers where it counts.
Shape Built for Light Wind Efficiency
A distinctive scow nose prevents the bow from burying when sailing hard on the rail upwind — and extends the waterline length forward, maximising glide in marginal conditions. Where a conventional bow would dig in and stall, the scow maintains momentum.
Pin Tail, Forward Fin
A pin tail makes the hull significantly more effective on the upwind course. While the reduced tail width might appear to compromise reaching and downwind performance, the fin is positioned significantly forward to compensate — ensuring the board maintains drive and control across all points of sail without requiring the rider to adjust their stance between legs.
Constructed for Durability
Rather than a carbon layup, the RS V5 AST 380 uses a robust monolithic build with a full-wrap fibreglass rail band for structural rigidity. Internal T-stringers run the length of the hull, maintaining consistent stiffness and preserving shape across seasons of regular racing, club use, and the kind of handling that competition boards inevitably receive. The construction choice is deliberate — durability and repairability matter as much as outright weight in a fleet environment.
The Full Tactical Picture
In raceboard competition, the overall result is shaped across the entire course — not decided on a single leg. The RS V5 AST 380 performs consistently across all points of sail — settled upwind, driving through the reaches, controlled on the run.
