Has Exocet ever considered producing an Exo Wave larger than the 105? Just curious as I'm using the Cross 117 as a large wave board now, but would love to have more of a wave design in the 115L+ range.

Thanks!

I'm not at liberty to say much about the US Mag test overall. Guess we all have to wait til the Mag is published this spring. Fair enough to them and everyone else. I can say that other brands offer a multitude of footstrap postions on their 115 to 125 size boards, including some centerline options on about half. The Cross 118 is the only one with a bias toward the center, instead of toward the rail or a full spread (two or three sets of plugs.)

I can't think of a way to make the 118 wavier. Bri, what are you looking for in such a design? Foot straps further forward? Glad to see there are others "going big." Matt Pritchard and others have been saying for years. Eddy P. says some of the Hookipa crowd are going bigger... Finally.

I take the Kona, and S-4 in the waves often. The S-Cross 160 rocks in side-on to side off in very light winds, too, and it has a chicken strap position in the back. :~)

Been having some fantastic "bobbing for waves" sessions lately.

Hey Bri,
I definitely think that the Cross II 118 is more wave tuned than the Cross 117...
The nose seems to ride a bit higher...but, more importantly the faceted squash tail makes it snappier on the wave face and basically in the turns...
I've busted some nice tail slides and landed some sweeet aerials on this puppy...

Here's some shots of the Cross II 118 laid out with several boards in the Exocet waveboard lineup...most notably contrasted with the USurf 84...one of the waviest production boards produced in the world...

I know that you have seen these shots of the Cross 117 side by side with the Cross II 118...

I dunno about John's claims of riding the S-Cross 160 and S-4 in the waves...
guess, I'd have to see some pics to believe it...should be easy to come by if he rides them in the waves "often"...;-)

Don't get me wrong...I rode a Bassett custom formula board in the surf once...but, I put one of my 12" FreeWeeds on it...turns almost any large board, into a waveriding board...as long as the board has nose rocker and kinda soft rails in the front...

WD, unfortunately, I "often" sail in a remote venue that has a reputation for eating masts and egos. No photograpers at the ready in my world. Care to sail/photo over here? Thanks for the mean jab.

>>>Thanks for the mean jab.<<<

Hi John,
Geezus H. Murphy! Is your skin that thin?
"mean jab"?!?! Notice the winky? You're kidding, right?

Dood , you're the one who claimed you ride full-on slalom boards in the waves "often"...and the S-Cross 160 actually "rocks"...
I've ridden those boards....like I said...I dunno about their waveriding ability...I'd just really like to see some pics of this "rocking" wave action on a wide/short slalom board on one of your "mast eating" beach breaks, that's all...maybe you could edumacate me...;-)

I know that you're not a poser...unlike others that can't back up their claims that seem to emanate from their imaginations and fingertips all over the web...when asked to produce a pic, they act like they are in Siberia...no people or cameras within 3000 miles...;-)

Digital cameras are cheap...the technology is simple...heck, you even have access to the gigantic Windsurfing Mag consortium just down the road...must be a pic or two that you could share?...;-)

No thang...if you don't have any wavesailing pics, I understand...;-)

...and thanks for the invite...really would like to hang with ya'll...but, I have my hands full at my own remote venue, way off the beaten track, that also has a reputation for breaking stuff and drowning people...unfortunate for some, I reckon...but, it's nice to have a spot that keeps it *real*...

Nat Gill's expression in his 2nd vid clip, kinda sums it up...he struggles to get his gear across the sand after his sesh...shakes his head in amazement...

John, you're welcome to visit us as well...'sposed to have record temps today...the surf is 14'@16 secs...and we're forecasted to get yet another blow with swell on Wednesday...

WED - NW WIND 20 TO 30 KT. COMBINED SEAS 9 TO 11 FT.

THU - NW WIND 15 TO 25 KT. COMBINED SEAS 10 TO 12 FT.

FRI - NW WIND 15 TO 25 KT DIMINISHING TO 10 TO 20 KT. COMBINED SEAS 10 TO 12 FT.

I've got a Turbo Boost, iSonic, & a S-Type that you could use...might want to bring your slalom fins...;-)

Heck, Brian M. even rode those boards when he visited us last year...;-)

Of course, I can cover you on an Exocet waveboard...
http://surfingsports.com/exocet_waveboards/index.html

We even have a Cross 117, and a Cross II 106 that weren't in the pics...if you desire...

Still a couple of weeks out on our new Cuben fiber Charges and Phantoms...
but, we've got other nice , new wave sails to pick from...and plenty of RDM's if you break one or two...;-)

Warm winds and waves...{:~)

I am fed up with trying to convince people of nearly anything about Playalinda Beach. No one wants to stray from their more familiar haunts at Cocoa Beach (usually crappier all around.) I sail solo 95% of the time at Playa. There is a dearth of wave sailors in FL, and we tend to not stray too far from home. So what I get a camera myself, no one comes to my local break... It is too far from the nearest Burger King? I gave up.

How's that for a rant? What I'm saying is I'm doing the best I can with what I've got: me, my toys, and nothing else. Pathetic isn't it?

Can't get the Mag folks to do anything other than their own aganda either. Their bosses are not sympathic to time on the water... The grindstone calls most away from fun factorseven in the "industry." Thanks for the invite. Maybe, I'll take you up on that some day. Your friends' and your pics make it easy for everyone to visualize what's going on. Wish we had a critical mass to do the same.

Hi John,
No worries...I know you guys get the goods...and I totally know about mags and agendas...but, with the internet, blogs, You Tube...etc...that mag "emperor on the throne" paradigm is passé...;-)

BTW, do you sail nekkid at Playlinda Beach?...;-)

Do you ever get down to Reef Road?
Does it ever get windy enough to wavesail?

Hey guys! Just got back from the coast. Good sesh on my 5.3 & Exo 85 today! Saturday had to go large starting out with the Cross 117, then down to the Exo 105...it's all good!! :-)

Back to my original post, and believe me, I'm no expert or anything, but I would like a little quicker turning (not so drawn out) in a big board. Not sure if that is possible with a board in that volume range (115L+). The other thing is I find that the set the rail to far forward, it seems to trip up on itself. Could be the rider too! :-) I realize the Cross 117 that I have is a freestyle/wave and completely understand it's area of intended use. For me I would just like something that leans more to the wave side, that's all. Sounds like the Cross II 118 leans more towards wave than the 117 I have.

So, I guess if I could dream, an Exo Wave 115 - 118 would be what I would like! :-) But until then, the Cross 117 is close as to nirvana as I'll get!!

Later,
Bri

Hi Brian.

Here is something you might like to think about as it may help you get more out of your cross117 and do your own experiments.

We can split a board into 3 sections. We are talking about the rails here.

Back foot strap and back. This is the command section of the board. Anything you do on this section the response is very fast and you can do incredibly tight turns. The problem is with this section you also slow down a lot.

Just in front of the back strap to just infront of the front foot strap. This is the drive section and speed. For high speed turns we are using this section of the board but the turns will be much larger.

From just infront of the front strap and forwards is the control or stability section. We go onto this section to smooth out a Turn.

So when we are wave ridding we are transferring between the sections all the time depending on what the wave is telling us to do.

So for example, when we want to go into a turn first we must command the board so we put pressure on the back foot and angle the board. The board is now angled and the tail is biting so now we no longer need pressure on this section. So now we drive through the front foot to create the speed making sure not to flatten the board but keep it on the rail. this is done by leaning the body as far forward as possible hence the weight goes over the front foot. Last we put the rig as far forward as possible to engage the front section to smooth out the turn. Again making sure to keep on the rail. So if this is the bottom turn once we are vertical going up the wave we now flatten the board and go through the same procedure for the cutback.

Russell
