I'm interested in buying an Exo Wave 95L. I a looking for a board that is good for jumping and wave. Is this table ok? My weight is 70 kg.
I also have another question: I will float with this volume considering a sail size up to 6m2??

Hi Alejandro,

At 70kg you'll definitely float with the Exo wave 95. It's the good choice as a light wind wave board if you plan to use a 6.2 m² wave sail.

Best regards

Aloha Alejandro!

The ExoWave is an all round machine that planes quickly, delivers a solid pop for jumping and excels in all kinds off wave conditions.

The EW95 will definitely carry you and your 6m sail and still be alot of fun -don’t worry about that - could easily take even biggers sails like a 6.5m.

With your weight you could also consider the EW85. The EW85 will give you a bigger sail range in the smaller sizes and will take also a 6m sail.

Hope that I answered your question ;)

Cheers, Alex

Alex:

Thanks for your advice. I already have a JP Real Wave 84L . So that's the reason why I'm looking for a 95- 98 L board.

Comparing the EW 95 with a Tabou 3S 97L and a Fanatic Freewave 98L which is best for jumping and waves?

Aloha Alejandro!

No worries mate – okay so you only need a big wave board since you have a smaller one – cool. I will try to break this down for you.

The boards you mention (Tabou & Fanatic) are all fantastic boards in their own discipline, but these boards are not wave boards – these are wavefreestyle boards. Our own Cross line covers this department. The tabou has a wide and flat nose and a bevel tail section to emphasise its freestyle nature. It is a great bump and jump board but not a wave board. Now the Fanatic Freewave was closer to a waveboard before but from the 2005 model and forward it has gotten a much flatter scoop/rocker line in order to focus even more on early planning/flat water performance…

So my verdict is this: I think that the Tabou3S and the Freewave make good b&j- and freestyle boards but they are not true waveboards – these are crossovers.

If you want a waveboard then you should go for one. The Exo series has been developed for exactly this reason; wavesailing in all kinds of conditions – no compromises - jumping, riding and surviving!!! I think that the Exo95 will not let you down!

Cheers,

Thanks for your comments....

One last question. How is the speed of this board compared to other wave boards and with a common free ride board?

Regards
Alejandro

Hi Alejandro;)

The sole purpose of a freeride board is to give you a sweet ride without hussell. Nice wide curves and early non-aktive planning is the redline for a ordinary freeride board! Having said that I have to add the freeride boards have great speed potential given that you choose the right fin and a the right sail - at the right time;)

Waveboards generaly have also great speed potential since they must keep up with waves when riding down the face and still be in control...

Which is quikest? The one that is in the right hands;) I bet Patrice could out run the most of us on a Kona;)

Cheers,

Hi Alejandro,

I own the 105L Original Wave 2, the ExoWave predecessor, and find the board has lot's of speed. Most of the guys sailing in our local bay use freeride gear including sails like the Retro, V8, Infinity, etc. and I keep up with them even though I'm using wave sails. One more comparison: I'm as fast as a friend who sails a ~100L JP FSW (2005 or 2006) with Ezzy wave sails.

Most of the time the freeride sailors put distance on me is in marginal conditions where they jump up on a plane quicker. However, the ExoWave is quicker to plane than the OWave2. Also, I usually keep sailing in marginal conditions (dying wind) to practice pumping onto a plane and avoid rigging a larger sail.

Best,
Matt

I've got a 2006 Tabou 3S 97 LTD and a 2005 Fanatic Freewave 92. The tabou is quicker onto the plane, accelerates away quicker, has a noticably faster top speed, but does not turn as tight as the fanatic. The tabou is easily spun-out and feels skatey, it's hard to do a conventional chop hop on when the wave or chop is side on, as the board is wider in the tail and it causes it to twist to the surface shape of the water. Both boards weigh about the same. The tabou is stubbier in the nose and is easier to flatwater loop, and does awesome backward slides for vulcans and spocks as it has an extreme duck tail. The fanatic chop hops and jups more freely and feels like it's breaking away from the water much more easily when doing awkward side on wave jumps

If your looking for a fun fast freestyle board that can be used in waves but not ideal, the 3S absolutely rocks. If your looking for something with wave turnability, and better side on jumping ability, the fanatic is better suited, not too much slower in getting onto the plane, and not too much slower in top speed, but there is a difference, and it may or break your day of sailing.

Cheers

Pete

Hi Alejandro,
Alex pretty much nailed it on the ExoWave 95...if you want a *REAL* waveboard go for the ExoWave...the other boards mentioned in this thread are compromised cross-over boards...not wave boards...and the EW does B&J pretty good because it loves to jump and accelerates quickly onto a plane...smooth and lively ride...

I have both the EW 95 Pro & EW 105 Pro...just sold my EW 85 Pro and haven't replaced it, yet...so I have experience on these boards...and have ridden the Original Wave and Universal Waves since '02...

Here are some shots from a couple of days ago of the ExoWave 95 in good light air wave conditions...rider is 185 lbs...84kg...

Bottom section of Page 1...and a couple on page 2...

Hi Alejandro,
Another great day on the ExoWave 95 Pro yesterday...started on 5.0m2 then went to 4.5m2...wanted to see what the limit of the board is in high wind...
amazingly, didn't find it...here are a couple of aerials...my biggest, loftiest ones didn't get captured...at least 1 1/2 times bigger than these the bros were saying...

Was running my 9.25" FreeWeed on it...killer combo...landed every jump smooth and perfectly...

Hi:

In the end of September is arriving my exo wave 95L. Seen all the comments I realice that this borad is excellent for waves. My doubt is how good is for doing basic freestyle tricks ?? (I mean helitacks, aerial jibes or others)

Interesting reading in the latest (september) issue of UK Boards (you can buy an electronic ezine version for seven US bucks at www.boards.co.uk). They tested 75-80 liter waveboards, and among them the exowave 85.
It got quite good reviews, but the interesting thing was that they classified it with the wave-freestyle boards (together with the Fanatic Freewave and the RRD FSW) rather than the waveboards. Not only did its performance profile justify this, the rocker measurement confirmed it.

If it must be classified then it is an onshore "euro"wave.

FSW boards are much wider.

Hi Alejandro.
I´ve had the 95 for a couple of months now. Prior to the decision of chosing this board I had a lot of thoughts and (worries) regarding how the board would do in the freemoving category. I´m not a dedicated freestyler but do do enjoy helitacks, carving tricks, vulcan attempts and the occasional willyskipper.
Believe me! I was blown away by this board when I got it. Not only does it rip in waves it also planes ridiciusly early. I didn´t feel like I lost any planing power compared to my old RRD FSW 100.
In addition to this and to respond to your question: The 95 works excellent for the sort of classic freestyle tricks you´re describing.
