Hi,
I've read all the topics abot the cross 117. Still some questions.
The cross 117 will carry a 7.0 but will it also carry 90 kg's? And what windrange will be possible using a 7.0 with 90 kg's?
Is it a fast board?
Thanx!
Marc

Hi Marc,
I know a local sailor here in Santa Barbara that has been sailing his Cross 117 for about a year now. The guy is a true heavyweight at about 113kgs, and he loves the board. Just last Wednesday he was out on it with a 6.2 ripping. The board appears quite fast and it handles strong jump and bump conditions very well. Also, the board is loose enough to mix it up in small surf too. Just for some contrast, I'm about 70kgs and I was out on a 5.0 and 80 liter board.

I try to stay around 88kg but fluctuate up to 90kg sometimes. I have the Cross 117 and a 6.8 sail and it works just fine! Great combo!
Windrange is excellent, just make sure you tune your sail to the conditions!

Hi Marc,
I'm 90kg and can tell you that you'll get the Cross 117 planed up easily at 12-13kts with a 7.0m2...
We've been sailing the Cross 117 for the last year in every condition imaginable...and all I got to say is the Cross 117 is a home run!
Team Exocet nailed it with this board...matter of fact...it sold out several times last year here in North America...I've sold dozens of them...
The Cross 102 and Cross 90 are just as popular as well for lighter sailors...but, we are also sending one to a lightweight for sailing up in the Great Lakes...
Here's a 250lb. (114 kg) sailor holding down a 6.8m2 Aerotech Phantom...

Hi again,
As I read the posts, is the cross 117 suitable for freeriding?
I have now a true freestyle board wich is not so capable for freeriding.
Thanx again!
Marc

IMHO, yes, it's suitable for freeriding. Multiple footstrap positions (can run double or single on the rear). Adjust to the condiitions you are facing for the day.
From the Cross literature:
"This new "tailored to fit" multipurpose machine is a true crossover shape, combining the best of freestyle, wave and bump & jump sailing. "

Marc:
This board can do so much well, and it is fast.
Try it! You will be suprised.
It planes up very fast, and is very comfortable with the DDSA's. Wardog's Freeweed 10" is a pefect match for it.

Marc
I am pushing the scales at the 112kg. I bought the Cross in October and have never looked back. A brilliant board. My only complaint is that I rarely use any of my other boards. From the first time I rode it, I was happy. My most frequently used sail is a 5.7 Ezzy sail and this gives me a wind range of 18 - 30 knots plus. I bought the board to mostly use in the waves, however I tend to sail wherever and in any conditions. I have used the board in half mast to logo sized waves in North West Australia and a mate (who also pushes the scales at well over the 100kg mark) used his late last year in mast high waves at Gnarloo (if you wave sail you will have some ideas of the waves at this place). A brilliant board that you cant go wrong with.

Wardog,
You answered on 2/22 that the cross 117 would plane in 12-13 knots with a 7.0 @ 90 kgs. I am 77kgs, would that lower the planing threshold for this board? My sailing sites here in South America offer light wind conditions mostly. Do you have any idea how light can it get before it stops being fun with this board?
thanks to anyone else who might have any input

Hola Jose,
Go l@@k at pics in Post #3 on this thread...
http://www.exocet-original.com/forum/read.asp?ID=1551
bzh says he is on "7.2 Saber wind 12/13 knots, I weight 79kg"...
You could prolly lower it one more notch...maybe 11/12 knots...would depend on if you are sailing in fresh/salt H20...altitude...onshore/sideoff...current...waves...how steady is the wind?
Sailor efficiency and strength/weight also plays into the low wind planing threshold equation...
We sent one to a guy up on Lake Michigan who is lighter than you (130lbs / 59kgs)...and will be using a 7.2m2 on it...will be interesting to hear what he says...he will prolly establish the low end of what is possible...
I recently sent a Cross 102 down to a guy in Costa Rica (Pavones = light wind) who is your weight...he is using it with a 5.8m2 as his biggest sail...
>>Do you have any idea how light can it get before it stops being fun with
>> this board?
I've had fun on the Cross 117 without planing...light air waveriding...and light air freestyle on it is a heck of a workout...

Does your 117 liter board allow you to go off?
Randy's Exocet Cross 117 does...and he's not a "pro"...just a regular Joe Shmoe sailor...sailing at a regular Joe Shmoe spot...

I've ridden mine in 20' wave faces (Cali standard)...but, it doesn't really count in the court of public opinion...because they're no pics to back it up...maybe this Summer...so, if you're making claims, back it on up...
